school

Reese had her first day of real school this week and it went really well. It's actually daycare, and she'll only be going once per week over the summer, but we're calling it school. She'll be going to this school 3.5 days a week starting in the fall so to get her ready, we are doing the once a week schedule, which wasn't part of our original plan, but will work out ok. All morning when I asked her "Ready for school, Reesey?" she would respond with "Pool! Splash!" Sorry chica, it's been raining for weeks and we can't go to the pool, so school will have to do. When we got there she was a little overwhelmed, but quickly warmed up to the toys and sitting at the table with all of the other kids for snack time. She looked like such a big girl sitting there with her sippy cup and her goldfish...until I looked at the other kids. She's by far the youngest in the class. She's also by far the smallest. And she's also the baldest. There are 6 other kids in her class and they are all 2+ years old, but since it's summer session and there are no other kids from her age group at the school right now, she's in with the big kids. These kids are feeding themselves pudding with spoon without a bib and without rubbing it in their hair and they drink out of regular cups. Funny thing, she was more verbal then some of them though...smarty pants. If she gets a little too overwhelmed, she can always go down the hall to the baby room for a little quiet time during the day. I stayed through snack time at which point Reese said "All done. Bye bye babies" and proceeded to try and usher me out the door. This just broke my heart and I had such a hard time leaving her there knowing she wanted to leave with me. But after I left, her teachers said she fussed a little, but was easily distracted and then joined right in with the class. And when it was time for a nap, she made a liar out of all of us by voluntarily laying down on a little cot on the floor and taking a nap! Who is this child?!?! When I got there to pick her up, she was sitting at the table with the other big kids having another snack and was laughing and smiling at her teacher. She ran right over to me when she saw me and didn't want me to put her back down. So all in all, it was a very successful first day! I hope our second day next week goes just as well. Here's a pic of us leaving the house, her first school project (it was "blue" day and she picked out the hippo for her S.S.Reese), and her school report.
