some news

First the good news. Reese is going to start potty training soon! Yay! She has always been the kind of baby that doesn't care if her diaper is wet or dirty...didn't bother her one single bit. And a few months ago we bought a potty that she picked out and we have her sit on it every so often and talk about it and read "the potty book", but no pressure. She hasn't been ready. About two weeks ago she has started asking to have her diaper changed and telling me she doesn't like it. Hmmmm. So then we started talking about big girl underwear and she loudly proclaimed that she wanted Elmo and Diego underwear....and then asked everyone she encountered that day (including me and our friend's 9 year old niece) if we were wearing underwear. And she asked loudly. And while we were in public. So today while getting ready for the day, I asked her if she wanted to wear her underwear and she did and so we put on a pair of trainers under a pair of cool Elmo undies and off she went. She immediately went to the big mirror to check herself out and danced around watching how she looked...it was pretty cute. And then she peed in them and looked completely shocked. So we went and sat on the potty and we talked about it and she says she wants to do it again tomorrow. So maybe this weekend or next, depending on some other stuff, we'll knuckle down and get to training. Yay!

And this picture has nothing to do with anything, other than I wanted to show off her long red lashes. She was awake watching a show in my bed and I ran outside to start the car and let it warm up so we could leave for work/school and when I came back in she was completely asleep. Amazing!

And now the not so good, but not so bad, news. We called our local feeding team and asked them about doing an evaluation on Reese due to her eating issues. They agreed to intake us and during the intake they gave her a preliminary diagnosis of Sensory/Tactile Issues (don't go googling it b/c it will freak you out...it's not nearly as bad as you'll find online) and she is scheduled for a full Speech/OT/Feeding eval for her birthday. The therapist told me that most kids think the eval is fun, so it's not a terrible way to spend your birthday morning. So for now we are just waiting to see what they say and hope that with their professional assistance, we can help our girl get past her dislike of eating and her fear of food. And then she'll be perfect...not that she wasn't already of course.
